1. Where is the link to submit my proposal electronically?
The link will be active on the home page, www.braintumorfunders.org, on May 14th.
2. Does the BTFC fund internationally?
Yes, there are no geographic restrictions and international applications are encouraged. However, at least one team institution must be a U.S. based with a 501(c)(3) or foreign equivalent that will be responsible for administering the grant.
3. I have an idea for a project. Is my idea something you would fund?
We prefer that you read the RFP and then decide whether or not to apply.
4. The project we are considering includes several university components as well as a for-profit organization. Are there any restrictions on including for-profit businesses as part of the research team?
For-profit businesses may be included as part of the research team; however, the team must be managed by a 501(c)(3) organization or equivalent foreign equivalent. For-profit businesses may not apply without a 501(c)(3) component organization.
5. The research team we are putting together consists of researchers at multiple institutions. Will the BTFC manage subcontracts or is that the responsibility of the project manager's institution?
For each funded project, the BTFC will communicate with the project manager and that individual’s organization only. Subcontracts, if any, will be the responsibility of the project manager’s institution.
6. I work for a state university in the United States. Are researchers at my institution eligible to apply for a grant since we do not have a 501(c)(3) status?
Non-profit, state and local organizations are tax-exempt by the US government with a status known as a "government instrumentality" or state exempt (public schools and universities, museums, libraries), which carries the same status as those groups holding the 501(c)(3) tax determination letters. This means your institution is eligible to receive BTFC grants. Your development office should have a copy of the government instrumentality letter or other supporting document from the IRS.
7. I'm preparing a proposal. What date should I use as the "start date"?
The earliest start date is November 15, 2009 .
8. What are the requirements for font size, margins, and similar requests?
There are no specific requirements for these types of questions. However, it is important to keep in mind that the documents submitted will be reviewed by a number of individuals. It is in your best interest to make the document easily readable.
9. Are references and image captions included in the word limit?
No.
10. Is there an outline or example of a completed proposal file that I can see?
No.
11. Will you accept late proposals?
No.
12. I have a question not answered above. Who should I contact?
Send an email to info@braintumorfunders.org with your question.
